Sophia Basurto
Sophia has dedicated her career to helping both individuals and businesses achieve their goals through the development of strategic processes and technology. She started her career as a management consultant for both Arthur Andersen and PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she worked on the implementation of software for several fortune 500 companies. She later became an independent consultant and managed several of her own businesses where she applied her skills in communication, process improvement, technology, and professional writing. Much like the intricate details of the admissions process, Sophia learned that helping a client achieve their goals required immense attention to detail.
In addition to her professional and educational focus in business, Sophia has spent her entire career volunteering with youth. Most recently, she served as guardian ad litem (court appointed special advocate) for more than four years. In this role, Sophia advocated for children and teens and served as a mentor to young parents. She was also a Big Sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, volunteered as a Time Warner reading mentor and taught drawing classes to children. In her free time, she loves to ski, mountain bike and hang out with her husband and teenage sons.
Sophia’s unique background puts her in the best position to help students navigate the world of college admissions. She works one-on-one with students to identify what it takes for them to them reach their admissions goals. Sophia earned her Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA with Distinction and is a volunteer mentor at Summit High School’s Future Center. She has also completed all of the College Essay Guy courses for college counselors, is a Certified WOW Writing Essay Coach and uses proven strategies for guiding students through the process of writing outstanding college essays. Sophia has an undergraduate business degree from the University of Georgia and an MBA from the University of Florida.
