Sophia Basurto

Sophia is an independent educational consultant who helps students and families navigate the college admissions process with more clarity and less stress. She helps students identify and gain admission to best fit colleges where they can thrive both academically and personally. She brings a strong background in business, technology, and process improvement to her work with students. She began her career as a management consultant at Arthur Andersen and PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she worked on software implementations for several Fortune 500 companies. She later became an independent consultant and business owner, applying her skills in communication, systems, technology, and professional writing. As with admissions, she learned that helping clients reach their goals requires careful planning and close attention to detail.

Alongside her professional work, Sophia has spent her entire career volunteering with youth. She served for more than four years as a guardian ad litem, advocating for children and teens and mentoring young parents. She has been a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters, a reading mentor, and an art instructor for children. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and spending time with her husband and sons.

Sophia’s blend of professional expertise and youth advocacy positions her well to guide students through the college admissions process. She works one on one with students to clarify goals and build thoughtful college lists and application strategies. She earned her Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA with Distinction, has volunteered in the Summit High School and Ridgeview High School Future Centers, completed the College Essay Guy counselor training, and is a Certified WOW Writing Essay Coach. She is also a professional member of both the Independent Educational Consultants Association and the Higher Education Consultants Association. She holds a business degree from the University of Georgia and an MBA from the University of Florida.
